Musical Director Wanted
From 1st January 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter
Vocal Expressions ladies’ choir in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire seeks a new Musical Director and conductor to continue the excellent work of our current MD, who is leaving us because of family commitments.
We are a well-established, non-auditioning choir with 55 members. We have enjoyed singing a wide repertoire of popular, secular and sacred music for more than 20 years, and we share our enjoyment through regular concerts and events, which have established us firmly in the local community and musical scene. You can read more about us on this website.
This will be a rewarding position for a MD who enjoys working with enthusiastic singers whose musical knowledge and choral experience cover a wide range. We rehearse for two hours on Thursday evenings at Holmbridge Parish Hall, when we like our sessions to be friendly, lively and productive. All our rehearsals and events are enhanced by the services of an outstanding accompanist.
The MD’s commitment is for 44 weekly rehearsals a year with additional hours for concerts, competitions, workshops and other events. The rate of pay is attractive and in line with MU guidelines. It will be negotiated based on the successful applicant’s experience and qualifications.
If you are interested in this role, please email firstname.lastname@example.org giving details of your musical background and interests, and showing how you would be a good fit with Vocal Expressions where you will be expected to:
plan and lead weekly rehearsals and workshops;
bring your knowledge of the choral repertoire to advise on our selection of music;
inspire and encourage all our members to sing as well as they can;
show commitment to the choir and participate in its events and activities;
liaise with the accompanist to ensure that rehearsals are successful;
liaise with the committee on all matters to do with the running of the choir.
